Central Chronicle News
Bilaspur/Raipur, Aug 07: Ms Anusuiya Uikey, the governor of Chhattisgarh releases a medical book ‘Bedside Approach to Clinical Cardiology’ for higher medical courses written by Dr. Chandan Kumar Das, a senior cardiologist of central hospital of South East Central Railway, Bilaspur. This short historical function was conducted on Saturday 7th August at Rajbhavan where Dr. Das was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Gita Das, daughter Ms Chainika and the famous plastic surgeon of middle India Dr.Sunil Kalda. Apart from the final year MBBS students this book has been targeted for MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology) students and practicing physicians including internees.
Cardiology as such has become very essential branch for the basic doctors in India since there has been a steep rise in incidence of coronary heart disease especially in young generation. The majority of Indian population lives in villages where primary health care is executed by basic medical graduates. Hence, the fundamental concept in clinical cardiology needs to be clear right from undergraduate level. This book has been written with special care to crystallize the knowledge in clinical cardiology from the medical graduates through the practitioners of cardiology in each level while approaching the cardiac patients at the bedside. The mode of writing of history analysis by Dr.Das in this book appears to be highly simplified and practical. It needs to be mentioned here that the ECG analysis and intra cardiac devices with their basic clinical implications have been optimally described in this book. The readers will find a capricious blend of clinical methods, utility of bedside tools and emergency medical management for approaching common cardiac ailments. There is a complimentary video of 45 minutes on bedside echocardiography attached to this book. This can be viewed on line (www.cardiologistckdas.com) by feeding a password from the book.
Author Dr. Das is also presently the course director of DNB curriculum at the Central Hospital S.E.C.Railway. Recently he has been appointed as DNB examiner by the National Board of Examination. Apart from this, he is honorary visiting professor of Cardiology at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur appointed by the Govt of Chhattisgarh in 2017.During his 35 years’ journey of clinical practice Dr.Das has felt that gradually the medical students are keeping themselves away from clinical history evaluation. In most of the cases the trend is the first sophisticated investigations and then the diagnosis. Thus a gap has started long back in clinical practice between patient interrogation – examination and final diagnosis. Probably it is one of the important reasons for the strain in the patient doctor relationship. Each and all patient wants doctors to listen to him and examine. In this book, efforts have been dragged to minimize this “gap” and to update the learners and practitioners with all modern common cardiac devices. The sophisticated investigations are to substantiate the clinical diagnosis which is based on proper history analysis. Dr Das has a strong feeling that our budding doctors with or without the concerned specialties will get benefit from this small book of 316 pages and this will translate to better patient care in the society which will also rebuild a cordial patient-doctor relationship. Thus this book appears to have a dedication to build a better tomorrow.
This attempt of Dr.Chandan Kumar Das has created a trendsetter in Indian Railways as well as in the state of Chhattisgarh.
