Ruling BJP wants to create hype on the ambitious SKY programme of Raman Singh

Raipur, Sep 19: With the objective to create hype over the ambitious scheme of distributing free smart phones to nearly 50 lakh people in Chhattisgarh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, has geared up preparations to distribute free smart phones at the hands of the visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Janjgir-Champa on September 22. Raman Singh government has forwarded a proposal in this regard to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
It is notable that Raman Singh government had formally launched the Sanchar Kranti Yojna (SKY) at the hands of President of India Ramnath Kovind in tribal-dominated Bastar during his recent visit to Chhattisgarh.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh had launched the SKY programme at Raipur which was followed with similar distribution of smart phone in rural and urban areas at the hands of people’s representative from respective region.
According to information received, the think tank in CM Secretariat, have come forward with the idea to get smart phone distributed through the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his Janjgir-Champa event to selected few beneficiaries. Top officials have already started preparations in this regard. Main motive behind the above exercise is reported to create scenario in which the SKY programme gets attention among people apart from the other events.
As per the latest data available, the State Government has till date distributed 18 lakh smart phones under the SKY project. After forwarding proposal to PMO for distribution of smart phones to eligible beneficiaries on September 22, the senior officials are anxiously awaiting a final nod from PMO.
