Govt initiates talks to commence Bodhghat project in Bastar

Chhattisgarh Government on Saturday held discussion with the People’s Representatives before considering launching the Irrigation scheme under the banner of Bodhghat Project to expand the irrigation in tribal-dominated Dantewada, Bijapur and Sukma under Bastar Region.
After attending the crucial meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel here, the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Ravindra Choubey said that Bodhghat Project holds great significance for all-round development of Bastar.
He further stated that previously the Bodhghat project was started in the form of Hydel Power project which was opposed by senior leaders from the region and eventually the project was closed down. However, the changed scenario has given options for expansion of Irrigation works as the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel wants to use the water of Indrawati for the development of Bastar. He said that a comprehensive rehabilitation scheme should be drafted for Bastar after considering the opinions of People’s Representatives from the region, he added.
Cabinet Minister Kawashi Lakhma said that irrigation works has to be expanded in the region and added that several series of meetings would be held before finalizing the project.
Minister for Revenue Jaisingh Agrawal, Forest Minister Md Akbar, Bastar MP Deepak Baiz, Rajya Sabha member Phoolodevi Netam and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.
