Governor discusses with President on welfare of tribals

Raipur, Aug 13: Governor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey met President Ramnath Kovind in New Delhi and discussed various issues including the fifth schedule in tribal areas and development and welfare of tribals. The Governor told the President that in the past, some organizations have submitted a memorandum requesting that National Tribal Council at the national level, State Tribal Council at the state level and District Autonomous Council should be formed at the district level.
At the same time, there should be a regional council at the block level, a gram sabha at the village level, with whose advice policies should be formulated and implemented for the development and welfare of the tribals. The institutions also said that making rules under the PESA Act should be implemented completely.
The Tribal Advisory Council should meet from time to time in the states and the Governor should be consulted. With their advice, policies for tribal welfare should be made and implemented.
These organizations have also urged that the amount of the tribal sub-plan should be fully utilized for the development of the tribals. Along with this, it has been suggested to set up Schedule Area Administrative Service Commission.
Governor Ms. Uikey, during her meeting with the President, talked about the effective implementation of the provisions of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution in the tribal areas. Ms. Uikey also requested the President to issue guidelines for the effective role and responsibilities of the Tribal Advisory Council as per the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of India for the welfare and advancement of the Scheduled Tribes of the country.
