Glorious history of tribal society in the freedom movement of country: Uikey

Raipur, July 02: The breath we are breathing in the open air today has been made possible as a result of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. We should understand its value. Every citizen should work with dedication towards the nation and should be aware of the elements trying to disintegrate the country. Tribal society has a glorious history in the freedom movement of the country. The Governor said that the role of tribals has been important in the independence of the country. Before 1857, from the independence movement to independence, there was a period of continuous struggle against the British. The tribes had started revolting against the British even before the independence movement. She said that there is a need to inform the new generation about the sacrifices made by our tribal society in the freedom movement, so that they follow in their footsteps to provide a new direction to the society and contribute to the progress of the country. The Governor suggested that the enlightened sections of the society should be informed about the contribution of the tribal society in the freedom movement by running a campaign at the block level and at the village panchayat level so that the society should feel self-respect. Ms. Uikey said that tribals have been living in forests since ancient times. They also have a good knowledge of natural wealth, so they live a life in harmony with nature, because of their exclusive relationship with nature, they understood their rights on water and forest land. Later, after the arrival of British rule, through forest laws, interference was started in their area. Even behind this, the intention of the British rulers was the immense wealth hidden in those forests. They took recourse to laws to grab them. This was considered interference by the tribals in their lives and they raised their voice against it. She said that if we talk about the major movements of the tribals, then from the year 1780 to 1857, the tribals did many freedom movements. The “Damin Rebellion” of 1780 which was started by Tilka Manjhi, the “Sihu Kanhu Rebellion” of 1855, the “Larka Movement” run by Budhu Bhagat from 1828 to 1832 are very famous tribal movements. It is most important to mention Birsa Munda here. He not only raised his voice against exploitation but played an important role in removing the social evils of the tribals. Ms. Uike said that the tribal age man Birsa Munda was martyred in the year 1900. Bhil Tantiya alias Tantiya Mama, the hero of the revolt in Nimar, Madhya Pradesh, created a wave of revolution. If we talk about Chhattisgarh, the name of Veer Narayan Singh is notable in the initial phase of freedom struggle, who is also considered as the first martyr. Along with this, there were many heroes like Gundadhur, Kangla Manjhi, Gaind Singh, who sacrificed their lives fighting for the country. Undoubtedly, the role of tribals in the freedom movement has been important. She urged the tribal society to make the society aware so that they can contribute maximum in the progress of the country.
