Gambling dens raided; seven held

Bhilai, Jul 07: Kumhari Police conducted raids at two gambling dens and rounded up seven accused while gambling on playing cards. ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw informed that on the directions of SP Prashant Agrawal, district police is conducting special drive against the illegal activities of betting and gambling.
In this sequel, Kumhari Police received a tip off regarding some people who were gambling on playing cards in public places. The team of Kumhari Police Station conducted raids and caught seven red handed while gambling on playing cards. The first raid was conducted at village Khapri where four people were gambling on playing cards in open place. Police seized Rs 23260 cash and playing cards from the possession of the accused identified as C Ram (27) son of SK Chinnan a resident of Rajnandgaon; Rajesh Kumar (47) son of Jugnu Ram a resident of Khapri; Evan Das (20) son of Chandra Kumar a resident of Khapri and Mahendra Jangde (38) son of Bhaklu Jangde a resident of Khapri. The second raid was conducted in Roop Nagar, Oriya Basti of Kumhari. Rs 3000 cash and playing cards were seized from the accused identified as Lambodar Takre (50) son of Mankar Takre; Shekhar Mahanand (21) son of Bajuband Mahanand and Dhanesh Baghel (21) son of Mohan Baghel, all resident of Roop Nagar, Oriya Basti. They have been booked under the provisions mentioned in section 13 of Gambling Act.
