Free breast screening and mammography facility for women in Ambedkar Hospital

Raipur, Mar 07: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, free breast screening facility will be provided to women in the surgery department of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur. At the same time, the facility of breast mammography or mammo sonography will also be provided free of cost to women in the radiology department. Women from 35 to 65 years of age can avail this screening facility.
On Monday, 8th March, a team of gynaecologists will carry out breast screening at Ambedkar Hospital’s surgery department’s breast clinic from 8 am to 1 pm. During this time, mammo sonography or mammography conducted on women needing these tests in the Radiology Department of the hospital on the advice of doctors.
According to Head of Department of Surgery Prof Dr Manju Singh, the breast clinic has been operated regularly in the surgery department for the last three-four years. Women of all ages come for investigation related to the breasts. The rapid spread of breast cancer in women can be prevented only through regular screening, she said.
According to Head of Department of Radiology, Prof Dr SBS Netam, all women above 40 years of age should undergo baseline screening i.e. basic screening for breast cancer prevention so that the problem of breast can be detected on time. If any member in the family has breast cancer, then the blood relatives of that family should be screened at 35 years of age instead
of 40.
