‘Forest produce should improve living standard of people’

Raipur, Jun 01: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday advocated for the need of effective policy on use of available forest produce to bring about drastic changes in the life of people.
Reviewing the works of department of Forest at Aranya Bhawan situated at Atal Nagar, the Chief Minister said that officials should focus to win confidence of people residing in forest region with their works and work culture and added that utilization of forest produce should be carried out in such a way that it created new employment opportunities for people and improve living standard. Chief Minister asked the officials to work on processing of forest produce in Chhattisgarh and also questioned why the Tamarind-based plants are not been established in Chhattisgarh despite the fact that the forest produce is available in abundance. He asked the Divisional Forest Officers to submit a plan on effective use of Tamarind and establishment of Food Processing Plant for it
During the review, the Chief Minister also asked the officials to take on tie-ups with the companies for medicinal herbs which would provide employment opportunity to local people of Chhattisgarh. He said that attempts should be made for the establishment of the production units based on forest produce on the cities close to Forests and also stressed on the need for the establishment of processing plants through the co-operative societies.
Baghel also asked the officials to submit report within 15 days on bamboo based processing units as well s works related with furniture woods in Chhattisgarh.
Forest Minister Md Akbar, Additional Chief Secretary Forest CK Khaitan and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Rakesh Chaturvedi and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
