Farmers get one quintal per acre more yield with organic manure

Central Chronicle News
Bhilai, Nov 14: The positive outcome of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s call to adopt organic farming is visible now. Those farmers who completely used organic manure in their fields are getting better crops as their paddy spikes are dense and the height of the plant is also appropriate. Many farmers did experiments by putting organic manure in some part of the field and chemical fertilizer in other portion. In the crop taken with organic manure, the paddy spikes are dense and the height was also appropriate. In the crop of chemical fertilizers, the spikes were lesser and due to the extra height, the crop bowed down. The farmers of Ganiyari and Borai who used organic manure informed that they selected two different fields, one each for organic and chemical fertiliser. The experience of organic manure was excellent. They got one quintal extra produce with organic manure in comparison to chemical fertiliser.
Jhavendra Vaishnav of village Borai saud that this year he decided to do organic farming in one acre out of his 17 acres land. He got “Chhattisgarh Devbhog fragrant paddy” from the Agriculture Department of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. In this field, he used about 200 kg of vermin compost manure and he is very happy with the result. His field was full of paddy bales. Last year an average yield of 15 quintals of paddy was obtained in one acre but this year he produced 16 quintals of paddy. Satisfied with this result, he has decided to do organic farming in his entire 17 acres of land. Organic manure is ensuring dense and fixed height crop. In the fields where he had used chemical fertilizer, the paddy yield was decreased and due to the effect of chemical fertilizer, the plants grew to extra height and the crop fell on the ground. He told that he had received the seed of Devbhog fragrant paddy, in which his crop was completely healthy and disease free with use of organic manure. In future also he will use the same seed or C1, C2 certified seed only. He also thanked the Agriculture Department for this information. It is noteworthy that earlier in Chhattisgarh only organic manure was used. Fragrant rice like Devbhog produced here was known for its smell. The chemical fertilizers weakened this aroma and quality and also led to a fall in the price of the crop. Now the organic produce is getting good rates in the market.
Progressive farmers are making a big change in this direction. A progressive farmer Dr Tikam Singh Sahu informed that his forefathers used to use only cow dung manure for farming. With time the people started using chemical fertilizers. But now the state government has re-established the rural culture under the Narva, Garva, Ghurva, Bari scheme. It is returning back to traditional farming. In the fields where he has been doing organic farming since the last couple of years, the soil now has balanced moisture which is very good for the crop and he is getting healthy food grains. Presently he has one cow and one bull but he is planning to increase their numbers in future so that he can make vermin compost at home. Dr Patel added that they have to keep the fields safe too. We cannot spoil it by continuously using chemical fertilizers.
Indrajit Bhardwaj of village Ganiyari prepares vermi compost manure at home and is engaged in making his land healthy. He is motivating other farmers to do the same. He has given this responsibility to Mathura Sahu, the secretary of Gothan. Mathura Sahu informed that at present, earthworms are easily available due to the schemes of the government. Vermi compost has been prepared for the last several years. Vermi compost does not have a bad smell and it does not pollute the environment.
Another farmer Mithlesh Deshmukh said that this time he has prepared his farm and garden by purchasing vermi compost manure from Gothan of Borai. Encouraged by the input subsidy that the state government has decided to give to farmers under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, they are going to take Rabi crops this time. With this plan of the government, Mithlesh is impressed and is thinking of cultivating pulses, oilseeds and fruits.
Agriculture Department Deputy Director SS Rajput informed that for the development of traditional agriculture, positive steps are being taken by the government and administration. The district has immense potential for agriculture. Because the soil here has not been exploited much, so the farmers here are using vermin compost, compost manure and super compost manure. This gives them better yield and profit. To promote organic farming in the district, a special team of Gram Sevaks and Agriculture Extension Officer has been constituted on the instructions of Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure. They are working to make the farmers aware about it. It is noteworthy that the target of the state government is that all farmers should come to organic farming.
Presently, Kisan Choupal was also organized in all the Panchayats of the district. In which an attempt was made to solve the problems related to farming by listening to the farmers and along with the seeds, information related to organic farming was also provided to the farmers. The importance of earthworms in vermi compost manure was told by the agricultural coordinators to the farmers that how earthworms increase the fertilizer capacity of the soil by continuously turning the soil of the land.
