DLSA conducts awareness camp at railway station

Bhilai, Jul 16: On Friday, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in collaboration with department of railways and GRP conducted awareness camp at Durg Railway Station premises. Under the directions and guidance of District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Srivastava (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Durg), the people were provided legal information related to Consumer Act, Drug Eradication, etc at this camp. The volunteers targeted the people who are roaming in the railway premises without wearing masks. They were made to realise their mistake and sign a bond with promise that they will wear masks in public places for the prevention of Covid-19 infection.
Judicial Magistrate Rahul Sharma (Secretary, District Legal Services Authority) said that it is very important to follow the guidelines related to Covid to prevent the epidemic. He further said that there have been complaints that the vendors sell the items above MRP at Railway Station. He said that any seller cannot take any goods for more than the printed MRP and no one can sell any item for more than the MRP. If a shopkeeper sells the item above the MRP, legal action can be taken against him. As per the existing laws, those who charge more than the MRP from the customers can face penalty upto Rs 1 lakh. There is a provision of fine of Rs 25000 for the first mistake, which can be increased to Rs 1 lakh. Rs 50000 fine is imposed in case of second mistake, which is likely to be increased upto Rs 2.5 lakh. The third mistake currently attracts a fine of Rs 1 lakh, which is proposed to be increased upto Rs 5 lakh.
Many passengers and public are not aware of Consumer Act and are unable get legal remedy due to lack of knowledge of Consumer Act. During the journey, passengers become victims of fraud through cybercrime also. People who consume intoxicants during the journey also create trouble for other passengers. This special awareness campaign has been started with the objective of giving legal information to all of them. The awareness campaign will be conducted during July 16 to 19, 2021 and people will be made legally aware in the railway station campus.
