DLSA Chairman conducts virtual meeting with insurance companies

Bhilai, Jul 02: “National Lok Adalat” is being organized on July 10. In view of the Corona transition period, District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Shrivastava (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Durg) convened a virtual meeting on Friday with the officials of various insurance companies for getting more and more accident claim cases settled in the National Lok Adalat.
In the meeting, officials of almost all the insurance companies of the state were present. DLSA Chairman discussed the ways of taking the claim cases to the stage of final settlement in the National Lok Adalat. He asked the insurance officers to inform the claimants about the agreement amount offered by the insurance companies against their claims. He further asked them to ensure disposal of maximum number of pending claim cases.
Lok Adalat is basically an alternative means of settlement of disputes in our country. It is also colloquially called ‘People’s Court’. It was formed with the 42nd Constitutional Amendment of the year 1976, under which the concept of economic justice was added to Article 39 and the government was expected to ensure that no citizen of the country is deprived of justice due to economic or any other disabilities. The main objective of Lok Adalat is to settle disputes by mutual consent. The National Lok Adalat will be conducted both in physical and virtual mode. Cases can be kept for hearing in the National Lok Adalat to be held on July 10. Pre-Litigation Cases; Section 138 Negotiable Instrument Act, Amount Recovery Case, Electricity / Water Tax Related Case, Family Dispute, Civil Case; Cases pending in court – compoundable criminal case, Section 138 Negotiable Instruments Act, Motor accident claim case, Labour dispute case, Family dispute (except divorce), Electricity case, Land acquisition case, Other civil A and B class case can be included in the National Lok Adalat.
