Bhilai, Oct 02: The denizens of Vaishali Nagar area staged demonstration at BMC’s Zone 2 Office under the banner of Shri Ram Janmotsava Samiti, Bhilai Nagar. They were protesting against the BMC’s failure in ensuring proper civic amenities and services to the people. Spearheading the demonstrators, former councillor Piyush Mishra raised question on the system of development works, city sanitation and other civic amenities. He alleged that the city sanitation system has collapsed and all the officers are working arbitrarily.
Most of them remain sitting in the office and are busy in conducting the billing work only. Any officer is not seen in the field in the wards. He added that there is no proper planning or mapping work has been done for laying the water pipeline network. Due to apathetic approach of the officials, illegal encroachments are being done in various areas. Under political pressure, the files of development works are being stopped and the employees of the municipal corporation are making illegal recovery by threatening the people of penalty. Further, the development projects are being taken away to other wards by changing the place of work and changing the nature of work. Permission is being changed and all are not allowed to participate in the tendering process which is held in the zone office. There are serious complaints like tampering of the tender envelopes in the online tender are also coming to fore due to which the municipal corporation is also suffering financial loss. Street lights are in bad condition and are replaced or repaired when some politically influential person asks to do so. In view of Durga Puja and Chhath Puja in the coming days, there is a need to get all the pandals and ponds cleaned. If the BMC fails to solve all these problems within seven days, aggressive demonstration will be staged, he said.
