Delhi riots: Police arrests former JNU student Umar Khalid

Delhi riots: Delhi Police has arrested former JNU student Umar Khalid under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act(UAPA) in connection with the northeast Delhi riots. He was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police last night after 11 hours of interrogation. He will be produced before a Delhi court today.

Khalid was questioned by Delhi Police Crime Branch for a couple of hours on September 2 in connection with the riots.He was earlier booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in another case related to the riots. He was also quizzed by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police earlier regarding the conspiracy behind the riots. His mobile phone was also seized by the police.

Delhi Police has registered 751 FIRs in connection with communal riots that took place in the last week of February this year. So far, police have arrested 1,575 people in 751 cases.
