Courts reopen: Open hearings begin in High Court

All the courts in Chhattisgarh have been reopened today. All the courts remained closed for the last eight months with implementation of lockdown. But urgent cases were being heard online. According to information available open hearings have begun today in Chhattisgarh High Court and subordinate courts. Open hearings in courts were halted since implementation of lockdown in March for prevention of the spread of Coronavirus infection although urgent cases were being heard online.
A direct hearing in the High Court started at 10 am today. Each bench will determine the number of cases to be heard in its court. Cases whose hearing can be completed on the same day will be admitted in the courts. For immediate hearing, an application has to be submitted to the Judicial Registrar. Three double benches and 12 single benches have been set up in the High Court.
Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh Justice PR Ramchandra Menon and Justice PP Sahu will hear writ petitions and PILs and cases of habeas corpus. The second double bench consisting of Justice Prashant Mishra and Justice Rajni Dubey will hear civil cases, company and business cases. Criminal cases will be heard in a double bench of Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastav and Justice Vimla Singh Kapoor.
The courts in Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg will be opened on rotation basis keeping in mind the higher number of subordinate courts in these cities. Rotation will be done in maximum five Sessions and Additional Sessions Courts. The judicial magistrate will take action in a maximum of seven courts.
