Conveyer Belt destroyed in fire at BSP

Bhilai, May 17:
Major portion of a conveyer belt was destroyed in fire at Bhilai Steel Plant on Friday morning. According to information, the Conveyer Gallery # 11 of Coal Chemical Plant # 2 caught fire in the wee hours on Friday. This gallery supplies coal to Blast Furnace # 8 of Bhilai Steel Plant. Four belts of this conveyer gallery were destroyed in this mishap. The gallery has been shut down for repairs.
According to information, production remained unaffected at the Blast Furnace # 8 as the operations department maintains coal stock of two days in the bunkers situated near Blast Furnace. This stock is being used to charge the furnace. On the other hand, dumpers are being pressed into service to supply coal to the furnace. It is expected that the conveyer gallery will be repaired within two days. ED (Works) PK Das also reached the mishap site on Friday morning to asses the situation. According to senior BSP employees, some coal generally falls down on the sides of conveyer belts and rollers. Due to continuous running, the rollers get heated and the hit machine parts would have possibly triggered fire in the coal.
