Cong stages protest against growing inflation, hike in petrol, diesel prices

Raipur, Jun 11: Congress has continued its nationwide protest against growing inflation in the country. Taking note of the problems being faced by the general public due to continuous increase in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, unprecedented economic slowdown, rising unemployment and skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities the Congress leaders and workers staged demonstration and dharna. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mohan Markam sat on dharna in front of Shastri Chowk Petrol Pump to protest hike in fuel prices. Congressmen staged demonstration across the country while following COVID protocol.
On petrol-diesel price hike, Markam said that due to faulty policies of the BJP government at the Center, the people of the country have been battling the impact of COVID 19 for the last 15 months.
People suffering from COVID-19 infection could not get medicines and other necessary health facilities, he said. Despite decline in employment opportunities the central government did not provide any financial assistance to the common people, he added.
He said that BJP government brought the petrol and diesel prices to a record level by repeatedly hiking taxes on petrol and diesel during the last 7 years. Petrol price crossed Rs 100 per litre at several parts of the country while diesel price is close to Rs 100 per litre today, he said.
Meanwhile MLA Vikas Upadhyay along with Congress workers took out rally in all 20 wards of his assembly constituency on Friday under nationwide agitation against growing inflation and hike in fuel prices in the country. They staged protest by registering presence in all the petrol pumps in these wards.
Vikas Upadhyay said that Modi Government of BJP came to power by raising the issue of price hike but today the inflation reached at its peak in the country. Raipur Municipal Corporation speaker Pramod Dubey, Prashant Dengri, block president, Munna Mishra, Shakil Khan, and other Congress leaders staged demonstration from 11 am to 1 pm at Kushalpur petrol pump in protest against hike in petrol and diesel prices. Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar, MLA Kuldip Juneja also sat on dharna along with some other Congress workers in the capital Raipur to protest against inflation and hike in petrol and diesel prices.
Dhebar said that BJP government at the centre was going ahead with its policy of looting public by hiking the prices of petrol and diesel.
He said that Congressmen raised voice with the support of public against this loot by the BJP government at the central. Congress staged demonstration at Kutchery Chowk Petrol Pump in the capital to protest ‘anti-people’ attitude of the Modi government.
