COB#10 Cold Repairs carried out successfully with in-house Expertise & Resources

Bhilai, Dec 08: SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Coke Oven Battery#10 was initially commissioned on November 05, 1996. After serving for around 22 years, the job for Cold Repair of Coke Oven Battery#10 was undertaken. Battery was put under Heating on June 02, 2021 for 120 days following completion of repair activity. After attaining the required temperature of around 1100 degree Centigrade, the Battery was charged on December 06, 2021 and oven pushing was inaugurated by Directors SAIL, Krishan Kumar Gupta and N Shankarappa in presence of Director In-Charge Bhilai Steel Plant, Anirban Dasgupta, Executive Directors, Chief General Managers and senior officers of Bhilai Steel Plant on December 07, 2021. The dignitaries were welcomed and briefed by CGM CO & CCD, G Atchuta Rao and CO & CCD Collective. Cold Repair of 7 metre tall Battery was executed with in-house expertise & resources for the first time. The job involved replacement of around 21000 metric tonnes of Refractory Bricks, 6300 metric tonnes of Mechanical Equipment and around 670 cubic metre of Civil jobs apart from the major repair jobs of refurbishing of the existing Battery Machines & Coke Wharf etc. This Cold Repair is expected to increase the life of Battery#10 by 10 to 12 years. The repair which is normally executed under Russian supervision was executed in-house by the team of Coke Ovens (CRG, Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance, Heating & Regulation) and associated Departments like Instrumentation, Civil under the leadership of G Atchuta Rao, CGM, CO&CCD. The working accomplishments, strategy and planning, execution was well appreciated by the visiting Directors of SAIL.
