Chain snatchers identified and trapped within 36 hours

Bhilai, Aug 12: Team of Durg City Kotwali has succeeded in identifying and apprehending the unidentified chain snatchers within 36 hours of the crime. The team examined the footage of almost 17 CCTV cameras installed at various spots in the city. The accused committed the crime to repay the debts and fulfil their desires of expensive clothes. The accused are daily wage labourers and hail from village Birejhar of Litiya Semaria Police Chowki area.
Inspector Rajesh Bagde (SHO, Durg City Kotwali) informed that at around 14:45 hrs on August 09, two bike borne youth had snatched a gold chain from Manorama Thakur when she was having juice with her sister at Indira Market. Police lodged a complaint under section 392 of IPC. Under the directions of SP Prashant Agrawal and supervision of ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw and ASP (CSP, Durg) Vivek Shukla, an investigation team was constituted and exercise was launched to identify and trap the accused.
The team examined footage of about 17 CCTV cameras and spotted two suspects who were moving on a Maroon colour Hero Passion Bike. Police team showed their pics to hundreds of people to identify the accused. In the meanwhile, police received a tip off from an informer who informed that the people seen in the CCTV footage were residents of village Birejhar and work as daily wage labourers in Durg. Police team immediately moved to village Birejhar and the suspects were taken into custody. During interrogation, they confessed to have committed the crime.
The accused are identified as Nihal Soni and Chandra Kumar Sahu. Police recovered the gold chain worth Rs 40000 and the bike (CG07-K-9041) used in the crime. Inspector Rajesh Bagde, ASI Purandas, Constable Javed Khan, Pradeep Thakur, Farukh Khan, Dheerendra Yadav and Chitrasen Sahu played vital roles in arresting the accused.
