Raipur: In order to spread awareness among bikers about the benefits and importance of wearing helmets while driving, capital police will launch a novel drive named ‘helmet on every head’ from August 5 onwards.
Under this drive, police will stop bikers driving without helmets at all prominent city squares and will advise them about the benefits of wearing helmets while driving. Police will also provide helmets to underprivileged bikers which have been donated to the department by various social organisations.
Giving details in this regard on Saturday, Raipur SSP Arif Sheikh said that minor and major road accidents on city roads are a daily feature and in most of those cases involved bikers are found driving without wearing a helmet. This has resulted in aggravation to the injuries suffered by them.
He further informed that in the past it was mandatory for all government and private establishments to change the damaged helmet of their employees with a new one but the practice has now stopped for reason not known at all. As such, police department hope that all such establishments will immediately re-start that practice and provide better helmets to their respective employees.
The SSP went on to add that capital police on its part will provide helmets to underprivileged bikers with the limited number of gears donated to it by several social organisations. Saying so, he urged the other social organizations also to donate helmets to police department as per their capabilities so that they can be provided to the underprivileged bikers. He concluded the interaction saying that the drive will continue until every biker in the capital starts driving wearing a helmet.
