Mahasamund: To give information about rules related to tobacco control, a driver to place warning boards in all the schools, Colleges, Haat Bazar, Hospital premises and Restaurants is going on in all blocks of the District. It is notable that as per instructions from Collector Sunil Kumar Jain and under guidance of CHMO Dr SP Vare, and District Programme Manager Sandeep Tamrakar, a combined team of the Food Safety Officer Rakhi Thakur, Government Social worker Aseem Shrivastava, Namrata Sahu conducted surprise inspection in various government and nongovernment institutions in Mahasamund, Jhalap, Pithora and Sankara region to check whether COTAPA Act 2003 is being adhered or not.
During this in many a institutions, the Directors informed that they are not having information about it and they were given information about section 04 and 06 and were directed to put on display non-smoking zone and Tobacco-Free Institution and were issued instructions likewise. Similarly in order to make tobacco control programme successful, the institutional employees and general public were asked to campaign against it tremendously. District Advisor Abida Bhatt informed that during this no action was taken against the institutions and only they were given proper explanation and clarification about it.
In view of forthcoming festivals, the Food & Drugs Department in order to put a check on supply of adulterated items from sweet’s shops, restaurant and others and collected samples of milk-powder and others from Pithora area under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. Food Safety Officer Rakhi Thakur informed that the samples would be sent to capital city to get it checked and it is based upon the report that due action will be taken.
