BSP recertified with ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System

Bhilai, Feb 08: Bhilai Steel Plant, the flagship unit of SAIL, has been re-certified with the updated ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System (EnMS) for a period of three years till July 2023 by M/s TUV-NORD, NOIDA. BSP was earlier certified with ISO 50001:2011 EnMS from July 2017 to July 2020. Bhilai Steel Plant is the only unit of SAIL to be certified with ISO 50001:2018 EnMS for the entire scope of integrated steel making covering production of coke, sinter, iron and steel making and rolling of finished steel products. Bhilai Steel Plant is also the only unit of SAIL to include 7 MT MODEX units in the scope and boundary of EnMS. The boundary of EnMS certification in BSP consists of 15 departments of BSP, namely, CO&CCD, Sinter Plants 2 & 3, Blast Furnaces 1-8 (excluding BFs 2 & 3), Steel Melting Shop-2, Steel Melting Shop-3, Refractory Materials Plant-2, Refractory Materials Plant-3, Rail & Structural Mill, Merchant Mill, Wire Rod Mill, Plate Mill & Normalising Furnace, Universal Rail Mill, Bar & Rod Mill, Power & Blowing Station (both PP-I and PBS-2). The entire re-certification process was completed within a period of three months during COVID-19 lockdown with the concerted efforts of a dedicated energy team of BSP, comprising of trained departmental implementers, ISO 50001:2018 Lead Auditors and HODs, with the able guidance and support of MR (EnMS), VK Shrivastava, CGM (EMD) and AMR (EnMS), PK Sarkar, CGM (Electrical). The overall coordinator for implementation and maintenance of ISO 50001 EnMS in BSP is Bonya Mukherjee, GM (EMD).
