BJP stages walkout over Corona Cess expenditure issue

Raipur, Jul 27: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday grilled the ruling Congress over misuse of Corona Cess fund being charged through the sale of liquor. Alleging failure to ensure transfer of Corona Cess to Health Department for the Covid 19 treatment, the BJP members claimed that the fund had been used for the construction of school buildings which is against the rule.
Raising the issue during Question Hour, the BJP Legislator Ajay Chandrakar alleged that the Corona Cess is being spent in other works including the repairing and construction work of Schools under Atmanand English Medium School programme.
BJP members staged walkout to register protest over the satisfactorily reply from the Treasury bench during the Question Hour session.
Replying to the questions, the Cabinet Minister Md Akbar said that nearly 320.61 crore have been received in the Special Excise Duty and Rs 245.25 crore through Special Corona Cess.
Launching attack on the Congress government, the BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said that instead of spending the above amount through Health Department to check the threat of third wave, the state government is spending the amount for other works.
Other BJP leaders including Brijmohan Agrawal and Narayan Chandel also registered protest to the statement from the Treasury bench. Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dharmlal Kaushik announced decision to stage walkout from the proceedings to register protest over the improper statement from the Minister on the issue.
