BJP holds demo seeking reduction in VAT on petrol, diesel

Raipur, Nov 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday staged dharna and gave self arrest during the demonstration across Chhattisgarh demanding reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products to provide relief to public.
Addressing the public meeting during the demonstration, the State BJP President Vishnu Deo Sai said that instead of resorting to politics after initiative taken by Centre to reduce Excise Duty on petrol and diesel, the Chhattisgarh government should immediately reduce VAT to provide relief to people from inflation. He added that politics is being played on the grounds of study on the decision to reduce VAT in other states before taking a decision in Chhattisgarh by Congress government. Instead of playing politics, the Congress should ask the state government to take prompt action to provide relief to people by reducing VAT on petrol and diesel.
BJP led the demonstration under the leadership of State BJP President Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur and was joined by Lok Sabha member Sunil Soni, MLA Brijmohan Agrawal, Raipur BJP President Shrichand Sundrani and other office-bearers.
Speaking further Sai claimed that the people’s participation in the demonstration against state government on VAT issue, has proved that the Congress government is cheating people on the issue and is denying people from their right to get cheaper petrol and diesel in Chhattisgarh.
Raipur Parliamentarian Sunil Soni alleged that Bhupesh Baghel government has been cheating people with frequent Cess on several tariff but is reluctant to give reply to people on the charges levied on people since the Covid 19 pandemic.
Similar demonstrations were held across Chhattisgarh including Bilaspur, Baloda Bazar, Bastar and Durg.
