Bhilai Steel Plant despatches fresh lot of Special Grade Channels

Bhilai, Dec 18: More than 1400 Tonnes of special grade structural steel channels meant for use by armed forces was supplied in months of November and December 2021 from SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Merchant Mill in two consignments to meet defence requirements.
This SAILMA grade of Channel in 75 x 40 dimension is used by armed forces both for fencing in border areas and as supporting structures for bridges to facilitate troop movement in high altitude areas with sub-zero climatic conditions.
SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant has been rolling and supplying this defence grade structural steel in both 100×50 and 75×40 dimensions to meet requirements of building Bailey bridges, fencing and bridge support structures. It is worth mentioning that SAIL-Bhilai that has been supplying defence grade steel for different applications had rolled out SAILMA – IS 2062 E410C grade of Channel in 100 x 50 dimension for the first time in 2018 to suit the specific requirement of building Bailey bridges used by the armed forces for troop movement in high altitude areas with sub-zero climatic conditions. Special treatment is done during heating process and the steel of this grade is alloyed to give it more yield strength. Another Grade being produced SAILMA – IS 2062 E410A is also used by armed forces for building Bailey bridges in lower altitude areas. About 5000 T of SAILMA – IS 2062 E410C special grade Bailey steel channels has so far been despatched between 2018 to 2021 including 2112 T in current financial year 2021-22. About 3833 T of SAILMA – IS 2062 E410A grade channels were despatched during financial year 2018-19 and 2019-20.
About 1632 T of SAILMA IS 2062 E410A grade of Channel in 75 x 40 dimensions has been supplied since 2018 to meet defence requirements in border areas including 1424 T supplied in November & December months of current fiscal year.
About 1630 T of SAILMA IS 2062 E410C grade of Channel in 75 x 40 dimensions were supplied in 2018 and 2019. Total despatches of this structural steel grade in both 100 x 50 and 75 x 40 dimensions since 2018 has been more than 12,000 Tonnes.
