Armed robbery foiled at Manappuram Branch

Bhilai, Aug 12: An employee and a customer on Thursday foiled a robbery bid by two armed persons after overpowering them in a branch of Manappuram Gold Loan situated in Pachripara area of Durg. The incident took place around 13:30 hrs on Thursday when two persons with firearms entered the Manappuram Branch as customers.
The duo initially enquired about the loan and after finding a favourable situation, they took the cashier hostage at gunpoint. One of the accused started brandishing the weapon while the second one was busy collecting cash from the counter. In the meanwhile, one of the Manappuram employees raised the safety alarm.
A customer too showed courage and overpowered one of the accused. The second robber managed to escape from the spot. On the other hand, a police team reached the spot within no time and one of the accused was taken in custody. The firearm and robbed cash were recovered from the accused.
The arrested robber is a resident of Padmanabhpur and is involved in Catering Business. On the basis of information provided by him, police are searching for the absconding accused. The robbers had come to Manappuram Branch in a Skoda Car which is registered in the name of the arrested accused. A Press ID card was also recovered from his possession. SP Prashant Agrawal informed that two people attempted robbery at the Manappuram Gold Loan Branch situated near New Bus Stand of Durg City Kotwali area. Sensing trouble, the employees pushed the panic button after which a police team reached the spot and one of the accused was arrested with a firearm. The accused has suffered injury on his hand while making an attempt to break something. The accused had come in a four-wheeler, which has been seized. Search operations are on to trap the absconding accused.
