Central Chronicle News
Bhilai, Aug 18: Water is life and life is incomplete without water. The crisis of potable water is now becoming a serious issue in Bhilai. Every resident of Bhilai needs to tighten their belts to deal with the ongoing crisis. SAIL-BSP supplies water not only to the Plant, but also to the Bhilai township. BSP has kept potable water as a priority, keeping the public interest in mind. BSP has always supplied potable water to Bhilai residents even during tough times. But, the Water supply has been affected this year to the scanty rainfall.
The requirement of Bhilai township and Plant, together is around 1,50,000 cubic metre per day. Thus Plant’s requirement is around 40,000 cubic metre while the requirement of Bhilai Township is around 1,10,000 cubic metre per day. The daily requirement from Maroda 2 reservoir is 3,40,000 cubic metre per day including the industrial requirement. Bhilai has presently stock of only 17 additional days of water left. The availability of water is decreasing by the day.
Chhattisgarh government’s Water resources department is supplying 2,86,000 cubic metre per day while the requirement of water at Maroda 2 reservoir is minimum 4,30,000 cubic metre per day for catering to the daily requirement and building up stock. Thus, presently there is a disparity between water supply and water usage, which may soon create an issue in potable water supply. Due to scanty rainfall, the water level has gone down in major reservoirs. Since BSP is receiving less water, BSP is finding it difficult to supply water. Hence, Bhilaians need to adopt a cautious approach with respect to usage of water.
Residents need to use water sensibly and avoid water wastage. Each resident of Bhilai needs to conserve water. BSP management has appealed to residents to use water carefully. Save water while bathing by using bucket and mug instead of using shower. Residents must get their leaking taps or pipes rectified to stop wastage of water. Washbasin taps should be closed while shaving or brushing teeth. Washing machine should be used with full load and not frequently with half load. Water cans should be used to water plants in gardens / lawns instead of using pipes. Similarly, we must use water from buckets to wash vehicles instead of using pipes. We must try to use float valves in Overhead tanks of homes.
BSP urges residents to conserve water, spread awareness and serve as role models to others. One must try to reuse waste water where possible. In case of wastage of water through leaks, contact 24 X 7 helpline no 07882857164. DC Singh can be contacted at 9407982263, BK Sahu at 9407983184, SK Jha at 9407983137. Let’s save water. BSP appeals to Bhilai residents to use water judiciously and carefully and support BSP in the drive to save water now so that we can continue to get water through the rest of the year.
