Anticipating severe water crisis; Matri Vandana encourages people for water harvesting

Many parts of the country are facing severe water crisis during this summer season. The situation is likely to worsen in the coming years due to over exploitation of ground water and rivers. The situation has reached critical stage in several parts of the country leading to threat for law & order situation. In Latur of Maharashtra, section 144 has been imposed due to water crisis. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan are worst affected due to drought this year. In several places, water is being supplied through trains.
The steel city Bhilai has also reached to a condition of ‘Stress’. Earlier, the ground water was easily available at the depth of 100-150 feet but today the bore wells are going deeper to 350-400 feet for getting water source. Such deep bore wells even get dried during summer season. Several areas of the city have been declared “dry zones” due to unavailability of underground water.
In view of this alarming situation, Matri Vandana Welfare Society has come forward for bringing awareness among people and motivating them to installed effective Water Harvesting Systems in their houses and other establishments for recharging the ground water. On Saturday, the society conducted a meeting with common people and persuaded them to conduct water harvesting. 12 citizens have pledged in writing to install water harvesting systems at their houses and other buildings. BMC Corporator and Matri Vanadana office bearer Piyush Mishra informed that they have launched a campaign for water conservation. Under this campaign, small meetings will be conducted with the people and they will be encouraged for installing water harvesting systems at their buildings. Designs of economical water harvesting systems are being provided to the people so that they could install the systems at lowest possible cost.
The first meeting of the organisation was attended by Piyush Mishra, Jagannath Rao, Daler Singh Bagga, Rajesh Verma, Sardar Ranjeet Singh, Aftab Hussein, Nazeer Khan, Arun Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, Jeet Sharma, Palash Lihitkar, Sunil Lohia, Bindu Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Nitesh Singh and others.
