Raipur, Oct 17:

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested a patwari in Surajpur district after nabbing him red-handed taking bribe of Rs 4000 from a farmer for certifying the quantity produced in his field.
According to information provided by SP (ACB) office in Raipur, complainant Prem Sai is a farmer in village Pathakpur and had recently harvested the paddy crop produced in his field. As per the government norms, he approached the accused Patwari Anup Sinha to certify his produce so that he could sell it in the government approved paddy procurement society. While the government official is bound to certify all legal agriculture produce, Sinha reportedly sought a bribe of Rs 5000 from the farmer to complete the work.
Failing to convince the patwari for not seeking bribe, the farmer complained the matter in Ambikapur office of ACB following which a trap was laid and the farmer was sent back to the patwari for bargaining the bribe amount which was later agreed for a sum of Rs 4000.
Having had enough evidence against the corrupt patwari, ACB provided the complainant with marked currency notes of Rs 4000 and sent him to the patwari on Saturday. As soon as the patwari pocketed the bribe amount, the following ACB team barged in and seized the marked currency notes from his possession. Patwari Anup Sinha was immediately taken into custody and was booked under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Further investigation in this regard is now underway.
