Bhilai, Dec 03: Police have arrested an absconding accused of rape after about one-and-a-half years. The accused had raped a 17-year-old juvenile girl in Khursipar. ASP (City) Rohit Kumar Jha informed that the accused identified as Prabhakar Baghel, a resident if Navadeeh, PS Lormi, District Mungeli. The accused was studying nursing in Bhilai and was staying at a rented house in Khursipar. At this house, the accused raped a 17-year-old girl and escaped. After receiving complaint, police tried to search him at his native place but he was not found. The accused managed to avoid arrest by hiding at some or the other place. But the cops were constantly tracing him and finally he was arrested from Nehru Square, Bhilai. During interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime and further disclosed that he remained hiding at the places of his relatives and friends in Bilaspur and Raipur for the last one-and-a-half years. The accused has been booked under the provisions mentioned in sections 4, 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
