Absconding liquor smuggler arrested

Bhilai, May 14: Police have arrested an absconding liquor smuggler and have seized a car from his possession. He was among the two absconding accused who had fled from a factory in Light Industrial Area from where 102 crates of illicit liquor were recovered few days ago. Four accused were arrested from this spot.
It needs to be mentioned here that under the directions of SP Prashant Thakur and supervision of ASP (City) Sanjay Kumar Dhruw and CSP (Chhawani) Vishwas Chandrakar, a special campaign is being run against the smuggling and illegal trade of liquor in the district
ASP (City) Sanjay Kumar Dhruw informed that acting on a tip off, Jamul Police had conducted raid at the premises of Universal Steel Furniture Industries situated in Light Industrial Area on May 09. On searching, police recovered a huge cache of illicit liquor which was concealed in the godown.
This liquor was being loaded on a Bolero Pickup bearing registration number CG07-AW-2846 for selling. Police arrested four persons from the spot. They were identified as Krishna Janghel, S Anil, Mukesh Sahu and Yogesh Sahu. 102 crates of country liquor (produced in Maharashtra) worth Rs 2.54 lakh was recovered during this raid. Bolero Pickup worth Rs 4 lakh was also seized.
Two other accused identified as Anil Yadav and Kake of Camp-2 had fled from the spot after spotting the police team. Since then, police was constantly searching the accused. On May 13, one of them identified as Sarabjeet Singh Mehra (24) son of Amrit Singh a resident of JP Nagar, Shardapara, Camp-2 was rounded up by cops.
A Mahindra TUV Car bearing registration number CG07-BE-2056 worth Rs 5 lakh was recovered from his possession. The accused confessed that he had smuggled the 102 crates of liquor from Maharashtra in this car only. The vehicle was used in smuggling and selling of the illicit liquor.
The accused was produced before the court and has been sent to jail on judicial remand. Two other accused identified as Anil Yadav and Ashok Rao are absconding yet.
