84 held for boozing in public places

Bhilai, Jul 08: Drinking in public often creates a nuisance and leads to untoward incidents. Consuming alcohol at public places is punishable in law. With the objectives of effective crime control and prevention, Durg Police launched a special drive against the boozers under the directions of SP Prashant Agrawal. The operation was conducted across the district and a total of 84 boozers were arrested for consuming alcohol in public. Action was also taken against people who allowed boozing at public places.
Soon after taking charge of the district, SP Prashant Agrawal directed the SHOs to take effective action against those who drink alcohol at the public places. Acting on the directions, Police Teams maintained vigil and activated the network of informers. On the basis of tip offs, the people boozing in public were rounded up by the teams of various police stations under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Dhruw and Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Anant Kumar.
All the CSPs, SDOPs and SHOs were involved in this operation. A total of 83 cases were lodged and action was taken against 84 accused. The drive will be carried out regularly in the district.
