70-80 mt long conveyor belt of NMDC gutted in fire

The conveyor belt no. 28 used in supply of iron ore, near NMDC Bacheli Downhill ‘D’ room caught fire on the night of Wednesday between 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Since it was weekly off for the employees here on Wednesday, no one was present here and only maintenance work was going on.
No sooner the conveyor belt was started after the maintenance, it caught fire and it started spreading speedily and during this 70-80 mts long area of conveyor belt was gutted in fire and damage was caused to conveyor belt in about 300 mts. On getting information in this regard, CISF gained control on fire after lots of efforts. Due to this the supply of iron ore from NMDC Deposit 5 to Screening plant got badly affected.
This incident is being closely linked to naxal attempt, even though there was not naxal literature or banner found nearby. This fire incident has caused damage worth crore to NMDC and presently the police and NMDC management is carrying out investigations and reasons behind fire breaking out in the conveyor belt.
It is notable here that NMDC through its 10 kms long conveyor belt bring iron ore from deposit No 5, 10 and 11 mines to railway yard and from where it is transported to other states.
TI Bacheli Thana Amit Kumar Patle informed that they have inspected the site of fire in conveyor belt and are unable to find out exactly who is after this incident. There are chances that it could be an attempt on part of Naxalites, but it can be torched by anyone. As such the electrical wires too have gone pretty old and it is more than 4-6 months that it has not been replaced. But ultimately it is only after thorough investigation and checking that exact reasons behind fire breaking out in this conveyor belt would be known, he added.
